If you’ve read our article on improving your home’s EPC rating, you’ve seen our advice that installing a new boiler saves you money or your energy bills and cuts your carbon footprint.

However, there’s another reason upgrading your boiler could be a good move – it also increases the value of your home. When it comes to home improvements, boilers offer one of the best rates of return.

How much value does a new boiler add to your home?

Research from 2022 found a new boiler added as much as £8,000 to the value of a home.

For a single outlay, the potential benefit is enormous. This GoCompare study from 2019 found a boiler was the most profitable home improvement you can make. A £2000 investment saw an increase of more than £8000 in value, a 300% return.

In comparison, a wine cellar costing £46,000 led to an increase in valuation of… nothing!

What’s the average cost for a new boiler in the UK?

The cost of a new boiler varies based on the type and size of boiler you choose. According to Checkatrade, the average costs of installing a new boiler in 2024 is:

What are the other benefits of a new boiler?

Aside from raising the value of your home, a new boiler will also save you money on your heating bills. Just how much depends on the type of home you live in, and how efficient your current boiler is.

According to the Energy Saving Trust, upgrading the boiler in a detatched home could cut energy bills by up to £475 a year. You can find specific estimates for your current home and boiler on their site.

What are the alternatives to getting a new boiler?
