No more satellite and TV box: Sky launches smart TV set “Sky Glass”

UK broadcaster Sky has recently launched its own range of  smart TVs, integrating hardware, software and content in the new streaming TV Sky Glass. The new streaming TV requires no satellite, tv box, or tangling cables – you will be able to enjoy Sky TV simply over WiFi.

1. What is Sky Glass?

 

Operating on WiFi, Sky Glass offers up to 140 channels, including all Freeview channels, Sky channels (depending on your subscription) and a range of streaming apps including:

Sky Glass offers an Ultra HD 4K display and a built-in sound system with six powerful Dolby 3.1.2 speakers that support 360° Dolby Atmos® surround sound. It also automatically adjusts the brightness of the content displayed to its surrounding environment to optimise picture quality.

3. Sizes & Installation

 

It is available in three sizes, small (43 inches), medium (55 inches) and large (65 inches), and 5 colour choices including Ceramic white, Dusty pink, Racing green, Ocean blue and Anthracite black. A built-in mount is available at the back of the TV but customers can opt for a matching stand. The minimalistic TV set also includes 1 single plug and 1 remote controller.

4. Smart Features

 

Despite having a remote controller, Sky Glass can be operated using voice and motion commands, meaning customers can simply say “Hello, Sky” or walk pass the display to wake up the TV. It will also learn from watching habits and suggest related and appropriate content, across all the streaming platforms and apps in the TV.

5. Eco Features

 

Sky Glass offers a few energy-efficient features including auto switch-off, auto-adjusting screen brightness and overnight power saving, which promises to reduce electricity consumption by about 50%.  By minimising its packaging and using 100% recyclable materials, Sky Glass is now the world’s first TV to be certified as a CarbonNeutral product.

6. Sky Glass Price

 

Sky Glass will be available for purchase in the UK from 18 October in up-front or interest-free monthly payments. Subscription packages start from £13/month for the smallest device and TV packages from £39/month.
